F.A.Q.

How long does a ceremony last?

You decide! Our officiants have performed quick elopements that last five minutes to full ceremonies which last 30 minutes. During your consultation, the officiant will work to help you come up with an estimated timeline for the service.

How do we reserve our date?

Dates fill up quite fast each year. We require a 100% payment to reserve the date. Payments are non-refundable, except in the case of documented emergency.

Where do you perform ceremonies?

Here at Marrying Athens, we meet you wherever you wish! Whether it's a church, event space, or under your favorite tree by the river, our team would be happy to perform your ceremony at the place of your choosing! For locations more than 20 miles outside of Athens, mileage will be calculated.

Do you perform non-religious ceremonies?

Yes! Our officiants come from a wide-range of faith and spiritual backgrounds. We are happy to accommodate both religious and non-religious ceremonies.

Do you provide pre-marital counseling?

Yes! Our officiant, Reverend Jennifer Smith, LFMT is happy to offer any couple pre-marital counseling, regardless of the officiant who performs the ceremony. There is an additional charge for this and should be discussed with our team once we make contact.

Can we write our own vows?

Absolutely! More and more couples are opting to write and speak their own vows to one another, and we are more than willing to help both of you in crafting the perfect words by providing samples or in person during the consultation.

When, where, and how do we obtain our marriage license?

Marriage Licenses should be applied for and obtained by the couple prior to the date of their ceremony. This can be done by both couples presenting themselves at the Probate Court of Athens-Clarke County. The fee is $67.00. For more information, visit the ACC Probate court website by clicking here.

Do you provide photography?

While most weddings have a contracted photographer (we love our photography family!), we do offer a small photography package of $100 for elopement ceremonies only. You and your partner will be sent unedited images for free usage within two weeks of the ceremony.

Will your officiants attend rehearsal dinners?

Absolutely! We know that couples can feel more at ease if the officiant is available the night of the rehearsal dinner however it is not required. If you want your officiant to be present for the rehearsal, a $50 charge will be added to the final total due.
